The AGA has reported year-over-year increase

The AGA has reported year-over-year increase, spoken out against cannibalism, and made a demand for the Trump administration to curb the illegal market.

In spite of minor declines in the most recent quarter that can be ascribed to sports betting and fortunate game results, the American Gaming Association (AGA) revealed that gambling experienced yet another record year. This was due to the fact that both the traditional and online gambling sectors experienced growth.
American Gaming Association Chief Executive Officer Bill Miller
The yearly gaming income increased for the fourth consecutive year to $71.92 billion (£57.13 billion/€69 billion), according to the State of the Industry 2025 report that was issued today (19 February) by the American Gaming Association (AGA). This represents a 7.5% year-on-year increase.

The American Gaming Association (AGA) anticipates that the total revenue generated by gaming in the United States in 2024 would "approach" $115 billion when the National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC) reports the money generated by tribal gaming later in the year.

By 2024, the revenue generated by slot machines had increased by 1.6%, reaching $36.06 billion.  During the course of the year, income from table games decreased by 1.7%, reaching a total of $10.14 billion.  Slot machines and table games in traditional casinos brought in a total of $49.78 billion in revenue.

Last year, the in-person gaming sector, which includes casino slot machines, table games, and retail sports betting, was responsible for generating $50.32 billion in revenue for the industry.

However, when compared to the prior year, December's sales was $6.16 billion, which is a 2% decrease from the previous year.  This could be attributable to a decreased hold rate as well as a decrease in earnings from sports betting.

A total of $15.66 billion in gaming taxes were paid to municipal and state governments in 2024, according to the American Gaming Association (AGA).  According to the trade association, this represents an increase in the amount of tax that was paid that is 8.5% more than the previous year.  This figure does not include annual fees or the federal excise tax on sports betting, according to the American Gaming Association (AGA).

According to the AGA, online growth
At the end of 2024, the sector generated $8.40 billion from igaming, representing a year-on-year growth rate of 28.7%.

Twenty-three percent of the total earnings of the industry came from online gaming, which included both casino and sports betting. This amounted to $21.54 billion.  Revenue from online gambling climbed by 24.6% compared to the previous year.

According to Dave Forman, Vice President of the American Gaming Association, the "vast majority" of money generated by igaming in 2024 came from three states: New Jersey, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.  There are seven states in the United States that have legalised internet casinos, with the three states being the largest.

According to statements made by Bill Miller, CEO of the American Gaming Association (AGA), during a press call today, the problem of cannibalisation of retail casinos by online casinos continues to be an important conversation point.  He stated that there is "evidence to be pointed to on both sides" of the argument.

On the other hand, he went on to say that "there is an appreciation at the state level that this impacts and affects the brick-and-mortar casinos," and that as a result, these [state] legislators are going with care, which is appropriate.

 Wagering on sports
There was a 23.6% increase in the amount of money wagered on sports by consumers in the United States in 2024, which was $147.91 billion.  Among those, the AGA said that 95% of them were completed online.

The revenue generated by sports betting increased to $13.71 billion, representing a 25.4% increase from 2023.

Hold percentages in sportsbooks were highly unpredictable over the final three months of the year due to the fact that favourable customer bets came into play.  In comparison to the preceding time period, betting hold decreased to 6.1% from 9.8%.  During the most recent earnings period, a number of operators reported seeing unfavourable outcomes from their wagers.

Despite experiencing a 23% annual rise, New York continued to be the top market for sports betting in 2024, with a total of $2.08 billion.

Illinois, on the other hand, surpassed New Jersey to take the second spot with a total of $1.21 billion, representing a 21.1% increase.  The income generated by sports betting in New Jersey was $1.14 billion, representing a growth of 14.2%.

 States as well as marketplaces
Despite this, the Las Vegas Strip continues to be the most lucrative commercial revenue generator in the industry.  However, it reported a decrease of 4.4% year-on-year, bringing the total to $8.51 billion.

The revenue of Atlantic City fell by 1.7% to a total of $2.84 billion, which resulted in the region being ranked as the second highest producer of revenue from commercial casinos in the year 2024.

Out of the top 10 markets, only four of them had growth in 2024.  On the other hand, Queens/Yonkers saw a 2.5% increase to $1.58 billion, while Detroit saw a 4.5% increase to $1.29 billion. Chicagoland had a 2.6% increase to $2.24 billion, while Baltimore-Washington, DC saw a 0.6% increase to $2.10 billion.

The development of real estate in Chicagoland contributed to the region's expansion, while Detroit was able to overcome labour problems that had impacted its back-end economy in 2023.

Taking into consideration the future and the government of John Trump,  In the past, Miller stated that the American Gaming Association (AGA) had been "frustrated" by the lack of action taken by the United States Attorney General against unlawful operators.

According to what he said, "We are hopeful that as we begin working with the new administration, that as they have witnessed the growth of a strong and robust sports betting industry, that we are treated like every other legal business and that we are protected."

As a result, we place a high premium on increasing the amount of enforcement that is carried out in relation to unlawful operations that are present within the boundaries and shores of the United States, as well as making use of the resources that are available in law enforcement elsewhere.  We are keeping our fingers crossed that the administration will make them a priority.
